DND PICTURE
Originally designed by Volkswagon for the German army, and called the VW190, These vehicles are also produced by other makers in various countries under licence. In Canada, they were made for the Canadian Army by Bombardier in 1986 as replacements for the M38 and CJ7 Jeep models then in use. The Iltis is a standard military pattern, 4 x 4, light utility vehicle designed to meet the Army's field force requirements.
